Active Alphabets

Using multi-sensory activities helps to reinforce the brains pathways as they are being created. As kids are learning their alphabet letters the are many different ways to remain active. We have created an easy to use Alphabet Tracing Sheet. This will help reinforce their letter name along with the letter sounds and handwriting. As you trace each letter, say the sound it makes and a word that starts with it. Even better, after tracing it, jump up and try and make that letter with your body! (Think like the motions to YMCA!)

For variety, grab some Scrabble tiles and trace and say the letters as you select them!

This is available laminated for use with dry erase markers or as a digital download. This helps to reinforce the way to write the letters, along with focus on the different sounds the letters can make and words that start with these sounds. By using multi-sensory activities, this helps to stimulate the brain to reinforce the information.

You can also check out our video which shows examples of both sounds that vowels can make. (Long vowels (will sound like their names) vs short vowels. Check it out here.

Repetition and play helps the brain create solid pathways for long term accessibility and memory.

By focusing on handwriting, it allows the brain to focus on the rest of the activity and for older students instead of needing to focus on how to form the letters.

A few different ways you can use this Alphabet tracing sheet are:

  1. Going in alphabetical order
  2. Choosing letters in their name (or names of family members/friends).
  3. Choosing a letter of the day and practicing writing/sounding it and then seeing how many times throughout the day you can find that letter.
  4. Tracing the letters for words they are working on learning to spell.

What was your favorite way to use the Alphabet Tracing Sheet?

Until we meet again, keep playing, exploring, and practicing your letters!
