Learning with the Cookies
We stopped out after dinner this week to pick up a couple things as gifts for our teachers. (We have some wonderful teachers this year and want to make sure they know how appreciated they are!) And this was just another opportunity to remember that you can have fun and learn wherever you go!
We headed into Crumbl Cookies and met Lizzie. She was starting to make another batch of cookies and was cracking eggs into a giant bowl. We commented on how we were watching her technique (where she would take an egg in each hand and hit them against each other to crack them. And then she asked if we could guess how many eggs she would use. Gave us a moment and then told us each tray holds 30 and she was only going to use all but 12 of the second tray. So we could figure out that she was using 18 of the second tray and all 30 of the first to make 48 eggs!
Next she started scooping flour out of a giant container. After several scoops she encouraged us to guess how many pounds of flour she was using. One guess was 5. And she told us to triple it and then add 3. So 5 x 3 = 15 + 3 = 18 pounds of flour!!
What a fun real life example of using math to make something delicious! And we hope our teachers enjoy their treats and much deserved break
