Lego Addition & Subtraction
Do you have a pile of Legos? If so, grab some dice and you can play some math games!
Divide your blocks into two equal piles (or however many players there are). Player 1 goes: roll the die, count the number and then add that number of blocks to your tower. Player 2 goes and adds their number of blocks to their tower. Keep going until either a) all blocks have been used, b) your tower falls over, or c) you reach the target number you are working on.
As the players read the die, encourage them to show that number on their fingers. They can also either place blocks on one at a time, or group them all together. We also have available a recording sheet where they can write down their moves for extra fine motor skills practice.
You can also do this backwards where you start with a tower, roll the die, and then subtract the number of blocks that you rolled.
Until we play again, keep exploring and wondering!
